A Sound of Thunder
Reviewed by Monkey Boy

MARS COLLECTIVE RATING:

Sometime in the future, a corporation has made traveling back in time a leisurely vacation (of sorts) where you can enjoy hunting one of the most dangerous creatures ever to walk the planet, a carniverous dinosaur.  This seems like a great idea right?  Rules are...stay on the designated path, keep your guns safety on until the "tour guides" let you know its ok to prep them, and then when the time is right, take a shot at the dinosaur...this is the perfect trip for rich individuals, that is until one steps off the path in fear, and causes a ripple in time, which changes the entire world.

Things start changing almost immediately.  Swealtering heat when the temps should be relatively mild.  Plants begin to grow at an incredible rate, and animals begin to act a little "strange".  This is just the first wave of change.  You see, when you change time, you change everything about it, you change the evolution of things, you change what should of happened, what could have happened and what DID happen.  You change all of this, and most of it comes with disasterous after effects.

The movie is a fantastic short story by Ray Bradbury, and though the effects at times was lacking and the actors werent exactly "top notch", the story itself was a good one, basically...the butterfly effect, man steps on butterfly millions of years in the past and changes EVERYTHING he knows throughout time itself, the results of which are seen when returning back to his own time.

If you can get past the cheesy acting by many of the characters you will see that not only is the story very believable, but it is also very true in the light of what people would actually do.  You have all of this change coming over what seems a few hours, and people basically freak out, and then get together and form a militia to combat whatever it is coming their way.  I enjoyed this movie, but felt it could have been done alot better.  Overall a bored weekend DVD rental at best, but something worth checking out if you're a sci-fi buff, or just love time travel movies.  The details are quite good and they manage to go for over 2 hours with very little discrepancy with time traveling (as much time travel movies cannot do, usually missing several details that just "shouldnt be".)
